Dog? Cat? Mythical creature? It's a Lion and a Chinese symbol of luck and prosperity. Also stands at entrances to scare away unwanted spooks and bad luck.

Reminds me of statues in Bali with their black and white checkered sarong. Oh, and also reminds me of the Disney movie, Mulan! Hehe...my daughter loves to watch that movie over and over again, what can I say? :)
