long live the king!
May I present the newly crowned King and Queen of Malaysia. Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, the Sultan of Terengganu, officially accended the throne as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) on April 26th, 2007.
There are 9 Sultans in Malaysia and through a rotation system, each becomes King for a span of 5 years. For the next 5 years, Tuanku Mizan (an ardent equestrian) with his consort, Tuanku Nur Zahirah, will represent our country in all matters of tradition. Long live the King!
(I snapped this shot from the newspapers. So many to choose from but I liked this one best.)

Totally cool! It looks like a movie poster actually. :-)
Long vie au roi et à la reine. la photo du journal est tres belle, tout en or. c'est un roi qui gouverne ou un roi comme en angleterre ?
Long life with the king and the queen. the photograph of the newspaper is very beautiful, all out of gold. it is a king who controls or a king as in England?
yes Ming...The King & I (the Malaysia remake) :)
Olivier, un Roi comme en Angleterre. A figurehead.
You chose well; a very handsome couple. Any problems with this rotation among the royals?
read in the newspaper, he is making very good changes.
daulat tuanku.
Edwin, you come up with more exotic images than anybody. Do Malaysians revere the king like they do up the peninsula in Thailand?

Daulat Tuanku!
Which newspaper did you snap it out of Edwin?
;]
have a great weekend Edwin!
Strangetastes did the absolutely same question I had in mind to ask you...
However Long Life to Royal Couple
Daulat tuanku!
Lovely portrait of the royal couple :)
The king-by-rotation is an interesting idea. I didn't know about it. In Switzerland, the President position rotates through the group of 7 ministers (Federal Council members) with a new one taking on the role each year. Not really the head of state as such.
The King is a figurehead. The Sultans don't squabble over who is next. The population does revere the King, seeing he is our 'ruler' but I've noticed the Malay people revere him more than the other races do. The King does have the right to pardon criminals but leaves everything to our beloved Prime Minister.
Dijah, I shot this from the NST.
